In 2001, we inaugurated an office in Pune. To lead our India operation, we appointed Managing Director Mr. T. R. Balan, a knowledgeable and dynamic personality who has spent most of his life in the insurance business.
Under Mr. Balan’s outstanding leadership, business took off one step at a time. Although drastic growth of India’s economy in recent years has been a boon to the insurance industry, it has also signalled a new era of business competition. One of the key factors is recent revamp of the insurance regulations, in which the tariff has become a thing of the past, resulting in a more liberal market. As a consequence, the entire industry has become very competitive, opening up excellent opportunities for our numerous public and private insurers.
All these changes in the marketplace mean that we have more room to experiment with innovative strategies. Referrals between the India & Bangkok offices, with regard to Reinsurance, have evidently increased, for any risks involved can mostly be supported by big reinsurers in India through our Indian channel of communication, and vice versa. Moreover, we leverage opportunities of Thai foreign investments in India. Our profound knowledge of the Indian insurance market assures that our clients’ business in India is covered by the insurance policies that work in their best interest. Similarly, our Bangkok office can always provide consultancy service to any Indian-based companies conducting foreign investments in Thailand.
